Hello Darling Friend Flower Cup

Today, I’m using some watercolor markers called “Clean Color Real Brush” by Zig to color some stamped images. I used a triadic color scheme with yellow-orange, violet, and turquoise blue to color in the flowers and the flower cup. To give the images some life, I created some shading by putting down the turquoise green on half of the flower centers and then mixing the ink with some water and using a paint brush to add the lighter color to finish coloring in the flower centers. I used a yellow and an orange marker to color the flower petals. I didn’t use water with these two colors. Instead, I colored the base of the petals with the orange marker and then used the yellow marker to pull out the orange to the rest of the petal, giving a yellow-orange color for the flower petals. Don’t forget to clean your yellow marker of the orange ink once your are done by simply coloring on a blank piece of paper until you see only yellow.

For the flower cup, I used deep violet and light violet. I used a flicking motion to color the right and left edge of the flower cup which left pointy ends on each stoke and an area in the middle of the cup that was not colored. For that area, I used the light violet, blending between the two colors with a violet marker. This technique makes the cup appear rounded and real to life.

Finally, I heat embossed a sentiment on the flower cup with silver embossing powder. Please enjoy the video below:

Have a Lovely Day with Birdies

This is an easy handmade card that anyone can make. I used supplies from the April 2021 card kit of the month from Spellbinders, but you can use the layout and your own supplies to create a similar card. Here’s how I made it:

  • Trim the pattern paper to 4″ x 5.25″
  • Adhere the paper to the card base (a piece of cardstock cut at 5.5″ and scored at 4.25″
  • Trim the flowers off the green rectangular paper
  • Adhere the green rectangular paper to the bottom right of the front of the card
  • Adhere the tag that says, “lovely day” to the green rectangular paper
  • Stamp the words “have a” above the “lovely day” tag
  • Decorate the inside of the card and the envelope with the leftover pattern paper

Friendship Card

Here’s another clean and simple card for you. I made two cards that are almost identical. The only difference is the bows on the cards. One was made with elastic string from my local dollar store and the other was made from ribbon. Lately, I’ve been having fun creating cards that have subtle differences. Another option you have with this card is to cut the frame from a different color cardstock or the pattern paper I used for the dandelion.

The supplies I used to make the card mostly came from the May 2021 card kit of the month by Simon Says Stamp called, “Dandelion Messages.” The kit is currently sold out, but I have linked to the individual supplies below the video. In addition to the supplies from the kit, I also used a die from Simon Says Stamp called, “Frames.”

Sending You Peace

Lately, I’ve been enjoying making cards that do not require a lot of extra steps. This card is a clean and simple card. The main card panel was created using a 3-D embossing folder by Simon Says Stamp called, “Dandelion Wish” on a rose gold cardstock. To add a greeting, I heat embossed the words, “Sending You Peace” on another strip of the rose gold cardstock. That’s it! Quick, easy, and simple. Anyone can do it! Why not give it at try?

Mother’s Day Card with 3-D Effect

To make this Mother’s Day card, I chose the Gerbera Daisy stamp from Inkadinkado. Whichever stamp you choose, be sure to use one that is a solid stamp (or color in an outline stamp).

Stamp this image twice on the same cardstock in the same orientation and using the same color ink. Leave enough space between them to cut one out. You may even want to write an arrow at the top of your page so you will not forget which direction is the top of the stamped image, as you can see in the image below.

You can use any kind of ink for this technique. Chose one that goes well with the stamp you are using. Be sure to keep the cut out one in the same orientation as the other one, in other words, don’t rotate it around. In the above image, you can see that I am checking the cut out image against the one on the cardstock to make sure they are going the same direction.

Cut out one of the flowers and set aside. Create a 3-D effect by using a die to cut out the center of the other stamped flower. In this case, I’m using a letter “M” die, but you can be creative an use any kind of die that fits in the center of your stamped image. To make the letter “M” look 3-D, you’ll cut it out of plan cardstock four more times and adhere all those layers together. See example in the image below.

Last, adhere the first die cut (the one you did from the stamped image) on the top of those layers of M’s. Be careful not to smudge the top “M” because the image on it must remain in tact for the 3-D effect to work. Adhere the three-dimensional “M” to the stamped image you cut out (not the one with the “M” already cut out of it). Make sure you place it so that it matches the image-it’s kind of like a puzzle. I used the stamped image with the “M” cut out of it to match up with the one I cut out so I would know the orientation of the flower (which is the top, bottom, right, and left side) to help me place the “M”. I demonstrate this in the video below.

Finally, decorate your card with a greeting and a finishing touches. I used some peel-off border stickers to bling it up and I used a letter stamp set to place the greeting, “is for Mother” below the flower. The 3-D M makes the front of the card say, “M is for Mother”. I also decorated the inside of the card with the same flower stamp and peel-off border stickers. Have fun making this card for your mom!

Oh hey there

Today, I’m making a hello card. I’m using supplies from a monthly subscription card kit by Spellbinders. The kits are available as stand alone purchases if the don’t sell out, but they will cost more per unit than if you purchased the subscription. Of course, you can always follow the layout and use your own pattern paper to make a similar card. You’ll need to choose two pieces of pattern paper: one that is monochromatic like the blue one below (it only uses blue colors, one lighter and one darker) and one that is bold and busy, but has the same color as the monochromatic piece. Use the dies listed below to cut out the tags and put the scallop border on the edge of the pattern paper and white cardstock. Then, you’ll have to decorate the tag any way you’d like.

Affiliate links are below the video and here for your convenience. Here is what you’ll need:

I chose two pieced of patterned paper from the kit. One was a mono-chromatic color scheme so it made a perfect background paper. The second was more bold with lots of colors and images. Here’s what to do next:

  • Trim the background piece to 2 inches
  • Trim the bold piece to 2.5 inches
  • Adhere the bold piece to the front of the card on the right side
  • Use the Avery Elle Dotted Borders Die to cut a scalloped edge on the background piece
  • Use the same die to cut a scalloped edge out of white cardstock
  • Adhere those two scalloped border pieces to each other so the white one sticks out
  • Adhere the scalloped pieces to the left side of the card, overlapping the bold piece you already adhered to the card
  • Use the largest Poppystamps Festival Tag Die to cut a tag of white cardstock
  • Use the next largest Poppystamps Festival Tag Die to cut a tag of the background piece and one from the bold piece
  • Adhere the background tag to the cardstock tag
  • Decorate the front of the card with the die cut shapes as seen in the video below
  • Decorate the inside of the card as seen in the video below

You are Mermazing!

Mother’s Day is approaching! Here is a mermaid card for your magnificent mom. It is a mermaid card with a play on the word amazing and mermaid. I used the greeting, “You are Mermazing!” You could say, “Mermazing Mom” or “You mermaze me!” Of course, it can be used as an appreciation card too! How about, “Just swimming by to say Thank You!” or “Wishing you oceans of joy!” The possibilities are endless. To make this card, I used some of my own supplies and supplies from the Spellbinders April 2021 Card Kit of the Month, “Sincerely Yours.”

If you get the kit, you’ll still need additional items to make this card. Affiliate links are below the video:

  • 12″ x 12″ cardstock (I used textured hoping it would create a stronger card base, but that is not necessary)
  • Gold foil paper (I purchased mine at the dollar tree, but a similar version is available at Amazon – see link below)
  • Gold vellum
  • Mermaid die or use an electronic cutting machine
  • Rectangle Dies
  • Acetate or Transparency Film or use the plastic packaging from inside the kit
  • Kelly Creates Bouncy Letter Alphabet Stamps

Here’s how to make the card:

  • Cut the 12″ x 12″ cardstock into two pieces at the 6 inch mark. Put one piece aside for later.
  • Score the 12″ x 6″ piece at 6″ to make a 6″x 6″ square card base.
  • Adhere the pattern paper from the card kit (as seen in the video below) to the front of the card base.
  • Use two rectangle dies to cut a frame out of the gold cardstock that comes in the kit.
  • Use the larger of the two rectangle dies to cut out a rectangle of acetate or transparency film.
  • Adhere the acetate to the back of the gold frame to create a “window”.
  • Adhere the sequins that came in the kit to decorate the front of the card, but only on the spot where the frame covers.
  • Adhere the “window” with the gold frame to the front of the card base, covering the sequins.
  • Use a mermaid die or electronic cutting machine and some gold, holographic paper to cut out a mermaid that is a little smaller than the “window”.
  • Adhere your mermaid to the front, left side of the window.
  • Use the flower dies that came in the kit to cut two flowers out of the gold cardstock and adhere them to the top, right and bottom, left of the “window”.
  • Add a greeting of your choice to the front of the card.
  • Decorate the inside with additional pattern paper from the kit.

This is a fun card to make and even “funner” to receive. As always, feel free to improvise and change things based on your likes and dislikes, the supplies you have, and to fit your purpose. Most of all, have fun and enjoy! Check out the video below and if you are interested in making this card yourself, or one like it, check out the affiliate links below to get the products you’ll need. Appreciation (or Love You) Card

I decided to go all out and not just make a card, but decorate an envelope to match the card as well as the inside of the card! I was inspired by all the die cut flowers I had cut out of cardstock. The card was made using supplies from the Spellbinder’s April 2021 card kit of the month called, “Sincerely Yours.” It comes with floral dies and a die to make a miniature faux envelope. It is ADORABLE!

There are many choices you have with this card. I mentioned some of them in the video below, but here are some more things you may choose to change:

  • https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product?id=304082the greeting to fit your occasion (it would make a great Mother’s Day Card or Hello Friend Card or Birthday Card)
  • the color scheme to fit your likes or the recipient or the season
  • make a flat miniature envelope instead of one with dimension
  • the arrangement of the floral die cuts (more of a round bouquet or maybe just a sprinkling of flowers instead of a bouquet with stems)
  • and much more – the sky’s the limit!
  • frame the miniature envelope with a different shape frame or a thinner rectangle frame like the A2 Thin Frames Wafer Dies at Simon Says Stamp or their Frames Wafer Dies.

I definitely recommend using all of your dies to cut out as many items as you’d like before you start using this kit to make cards. Doing this will save you time in the long run and it will inspire your creativity as you sit down with all those die cut shapes to make cards! I store my die cuts in a small tin from the dollar tree with a lid that has a magnet on the bottom. I adhered a magnetic sheet to the side of the storage drawers next to the desk where I keep my die cutting machine so I can “stick” the tins right there and have them handy when I start die cutting. It is nice and neat and out of the way until I’m ready to make cards…I grab the tin and go to town!

The 3 round tins you see here are attached to the side of my storage drawers with an adhesive magnetic sheet.

Let Your Light Shine Greeting Card

One way to make a greeting card is by laying patterned paper on top of each other. That’s what I did in the card for today. Here’s how:

  • Choose three pieces of pattern paper that coordinate well with each other.
  • Cut the first piece to fit your card base, in my case it is 4.25″ x 5.5″ and adhere it to the card base.
  • Cut the next two pieces of pattern paper using some dies to add some interest to the layers. I used a Hero Arts die called DI345 Infinity Dies, Nesting Postage Stamps. I used the 3.5″ die for the bottom layer and the 2″ die for the top layer.
  • Adhere the 3.5″ piece using foam adhesive to give the card dimension.
  • Adhere the 2″ piece on top the the 3″ piece with regular adhesive.
  • Choose a focal image for the card. I used supplies from the Spellbinders April 2021 Card Kit of the Month called, “Sincerely Yours.” You can also stamp an image or use a die cut shape. The focal image had foam adhesive on it since it was a sticker that came in the kit. You can do the same with your focal image if you’d like.
  • Decorate around the focal image. I chose to use some die cuts from gold cardstock in the shape of leaves.
  • Decorate the inside of your card with the left over pattern paper/cardstock.

You can see how I did this in the video below. Affiliate links are below the video in case you’d like to purchase anything.

Mini Slimline Greetings

Mini Slimline Cards are trending right now and I thought I’d make some for you. The great thing about them is they allow you to use up any left over 6 x 6 paper pads. You know, the ones that always seem to be laying around because you couldn’t find a use for the left over pages in them or the pages that just didn’t seem to fit with any of the other pages in the pad. All you have to do is cut the 6 x 6 page in half and you have a front panel for your mini slimline card!

You’ll need:

  • paper trimmer
  • 8.5″ x 11″ piece of cardstock cut down to 6.5″ x 6.25″ and folded in half to make a 3.25″ x 6.25″ card (save the left over pieces to use for die cutting, for decorations on the card, or for matting your other images/embellishments)
  • 6 x 6 piece of patterned paper cut at the 3″ mark so you get two pieces of 3″ x 6″ pieces to use for the front of the card
  • adhesive
  • decorative elements such as die cut shapes, focal images, ephemera, etc.
  • Mead #6 3/4 envelopes (look for the ones that are not security lined) or make your own

Once that’s all ready to go, just adhere your 3″ x 6″ piece of pattern paper to the front of your 3.25″ x 6.25″ card base and you are ready to decorate it! I like to use the left over pieces from the 8.5″ x 11″ cardstock to use as a mat for a focal image or a die cut decoration. It’s up to you. Have fun and let your creativity go!
